It’s a gorgeous looking film that wonderfully captures Chris McCandless’ romanticism and his yearning to get away from it all, while simultaneously emphasizing the sadness left in his wake — the people that knew him and loved him that failed to lure him into staying around. Tragic and beautiful, it’s one of my favorites.

Doch dann plötzlich, von heute auf morgen, bricht er aus seiner privilegierten Existenz aus und lässt alles hinter sich. Ohne einen Cent in der Tasche trampt er quer durch die Staaten, Richtung Alaska, in die Wildnis. Unterwegs trifft er auf andere Aussteiger, die wie er am Rande der Gesellschaft leben, und spürt die menschliche Nähe, die er bei seinen Eltern immer vermisste. Doch vier Monate später findet das Abenteuer ein jähes Ende.
