Worth keeping as a compact creature-feature entry, especially for nights when I want something direct, slightly ridiculous in concept, but handled with more sincerity than expected. Hungry is a survival thriller about tourists stranded in the Louisiana swamp with a rampaging hippopotamus, and the film’s best decision is that it does not treat the hippo as a joke. The title obviously points towards Hungry Hungry Hippos, but the actual story is more about territory and maternal protection than appetite. That gives the ending a bit more shape than the usual “kill the monster and limp away” approach. Sistine survives not because she outmuscles the threat, but because she finally understands why the animal is attacking. The practical effects are the main reason to revisit it. The hippo has presence, especially in the close-up work, and the artificial bayou setting is convincing enough to create a proper little waterlogged danger zone. Madison Davenport holds the centre as Sistine, while Joaquim de Almeida gives Walker the right grizzled creature-feature energy. The weaknesses are familiar ones. The structure is predictable, the characters make the usual terrible survival-horror decisions, and the deaths are not as physically brutal as a hippo-attack film could probably justify. Some characters remain sketches rather than people. Still, it does what it says on the tin. A solid, slightly odd animal-attack film with a memorable monster and enough old-school craft to make it more than a novelty gag.

Writing and acting so bad that I was actually cheering for the Hungry Hungry Hippo.

Oh man did I have highhopes for whatis basicallythe Hungry Hungry Hippos movie. Unless... blah. It had moments that were great...yet the formula was so full of tropes. Additionally, just like in the Marvel Universe- Tony Starkis the literal cause of everything bad... here...one character is really the cause for all the death and mayhem. Itis fun attimes and annoying at others.

Pleasantly surprised by this movie. I wasn't expecting a ton since survival movies involving an animal a lot of times can verge on cheesy with too much CGI, but that wasn't the case wit this movie. It was a nicely produced, well acted B thriller movie. Recommended!

I waited a long time for this movie, and in the end it was even better than I imagined! This movie was incredible; it's full of emotions and makes you really care about the characters. The whole movie was simply impactful. Good cinematography, good acting, and I also really liked the suspense, the scenes, and especially the characters. My favorite was Sistine, which is why I worried about her in the movie, but I was also sad about the deaths of the other characters. But this movie is very Fun! And that's one of the main, or even the main reasons why I'm giving this movie a full ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Some solid visuals, decent CGI, and a couple of good performances are probably the best things this movie has going for it. The environments look good and give it a bit of atmosphere, but it’s never enough to make the overall experience stand out. There are some interesting ideas here, but they don’t really go anywhere. The biggest issue is the story, which feels pretty weak and messy from start to finish. The pacing is all over the place, and there are plenty of moments where the movie starts to drag. Not a complete disaster, but there’s not much here beyond a few decent elements that keep it watchable.

Had a fun time watching this with my daughter. Hippos looked pretty good actually. Just could have used a lot more of them. For the first half of the movie, the threat could have been literally any underwater creature.
My biggest gripe is that this movie really needed ONE shot, top down, with four hippos with a bunch of people in the middle bouncing around trying to figure out which direction to run/swim. Like how is that shot not part of the movie? Probably 5 stars if they included that.

5.5/10 - Wasn't too bad a more realer approach to an animal attack i guess. Glad that black lady (Dionne) got dropped by Humphwey the hippo it was well deserved

I’m 50/50 with this one. Not the best when it comes to script and pacing, but not bad at all when it comes to quality visuals like some others I’ve seen. I’d say: definitely one to enjoy if you love animal survival movies.

CGI was great, acting was decent. Plot was dumb.

When you have already done animal attack movies with Lions, Bears, Snakes, and Sharks to death the next logical animal to pick from is…a hippo?!? That’s what 2026’s “Hungry” chooses to unleash on a group of vacationers on a swamp expedition. When a territorial Hippo starts chomping it’s not because it’s hungry, it’s because it’s angry and protective. Which kind of defeats the point of the title but you are just here to see this cannon fodder get chomped on. Sadly not too much chomping happens. Maybe it was due to a lack of budget or creativity but the gore here is pretty tame and dare say lackluster. It doesn’t help that the protagonists are totally insufferable and forgettable. The Hippo effects are decent enough and the climax of the film has okay tension but not enough to say this is a must watch. It’s a fun concept if it were in the hands of a more capable director and cast.
