Harold calls on Nell. He suggests taking her out on the river for a row. Nell's mother insists on accompanying them. Harold hires a boat and they go out. After a while, mother persists in trying her hand at rowing and while changing places with Harold in the boat she upsets it and all three are precipitated into the water. They swim to shore, wet, frozen, and much the worse for, when Harold offers to get them some clothes that are dry. By chance he sees an auto passing, from which drops a grip. He gets it and upon opening it finds that it contains some man's wearing apparel. He gives some to the girl and her mother and dons some himself. They again start on their way home. Meanwhile the occupant of the automobile discovers the loss of the grip and looks for same. He sees the three with the grip and his clothes on and gives chase. They pelt him with stones and finally elude him, going home. They are no sooner home and still in their strange raiment when the doorbell rings and once again they are confronted by the man who has chased them and whose grip they stole. They order him out of the house, but he shows mother a letter of introduction to her from n friend in a distant city, and explanations being in order, all is forgiven, the grip and its contents returned, and all ends well.
