This was a very Tarantino-esque attempt depicting two gangs (mob style, not thug style) set in the 70s being holed up in a warehouse, and end up in a gun fight for survival. The entire movie takes place in a confined space, which lends to the atmosphere. At times, it seemed so cramped and I wondered how in the world they weren't actually getting shot (if you watch it, you'll see what I mean). The characters themselves also help in making the movie work since without giving a crap about them, this movie wouldn't have much going for it. The quality dialogue carried the movie more than the gunfights, since that is the focus. I am not surprised the USA audience didn't get much into this, only because of the type of movie it is, and didn't say "Quentin" anywhere in it. Shame since it was pretty entertaining, and didn't drag itself out as well.
- John Chapel28. Februar 2025Generally, my stars are reserved to measure the one thing that I think universally makes a good movie: rewatchability. Thats it. There's nothing particularly special about this movie. Its an arms deal gone bad, taking place in real time over the course of 2 hours or so, and the backstory of the characters comes through in the dialogue during the firefight. What can I say? its a fun mindless interesting little watch. I've watched it 4 times now, so it gets 4 stars. I'd give it 5 but lets be honest, its not a perfect movie.

Massachusetts, 1978: In einer abgeschiedenen Lagerhalle in der Nähe von Boston soll ein großer Waffendeal über die Bühne gehen: Justine ist auf besonders heiße Ware spezialisiert und fungiert als Mittelsfrau zwischen den irischen Gangstern Chris und Frank sowie den zwielichtigen Geschäftsmännern Ord und Vernon. Unter größter Anspannung nimmt die Transaktion ihren Lauf. Doch dann kommt es zu einem Missverständnis. Alle Beteiligten fürchten, übervorteilt zu werden und einer von ihnen kann den Finger am Abzug nicht ruhig halten. Er eröffnet das Feuer – und damit beginnt eine epische Schießerei, bei der die Kisten voller Waffen, die bis eben noch Ware waren, natürlich gleich zum Einsatz kommen und Allianzen und Zweckbündnisse ebenso schnell eingegangen wie wieder zunichte gemacht werden.
Die Hauptcharaktere in Free Fire sind Chris (Cillian Murphy), Justine (Brie Larson), Ord (Armie Hammer).
