But the alpine sports rule in this region, downhill skiing the king. Alex Foster, the owner of the Foster Laurentian Ski Park and a former captain of the Canadian Olympic ski team, is also the inventor of the tow rope, which he installed at the park twenty years ago. Beyond a slalom ski race - skiers racing against the clock in a downhill course in which they have to navigate around a series of poles - being shown, Foster hopes one day to have the sport of skierette a competitive event, it, which he demonstrates, the downhill skiing equivalent of figure skating. One does not have to be a winter sports enthusiast to want to vacation in the region as the town of Ste-Agathe has much to offer in the area of "après-ski".
