- cultfilmliker10. April 2025What a beautiful sprawling intro. The music in this is extraordinary. Mesmerized by the direction from the get-go. What cinematography and landscapes. That hill vivisection tracking shot was just *chef’s kiss* 👌🏼 Love the naturalism & realism. And it’s spiritual too! lol As someone who ruined their eyes, legs, and hands from alcohol, the whole “salt-of-the-Earth” vibe really got to me. 😿 Boy, do I regret having never traveled out of the country! Japan is so intensely beautiful. The messages are so simple but so overlooked in our society, it makes the film incredibly good, important, and very necessary. One of them being: WATER IS LIFE ✊ and the obvious: Capitalism kills BUT: We can always do better ❤️

I would suggest a central theme here is that everything is a grey area that is up for discussion and as such, there are plently of high-quality conversation starters scattered throughout. Recommended.

Takumi und seine Tochter Hana leben im Dorf Mizubiki in der Nähe von Tokio. Wie Generationen vor ihnen führen sie ein bescheidenes Leben im Einklang mit den Jahreszyklen und der Ordnung der Natur. Eines Tages werden die Dorfbewohner auf den Plan aufmerksam, der vorsieht, in der Nähe von Takumis Haus einen Luxus-Campingplatz zu errichten, der den Stadtbewohnern einen komfortablen „Zufluchtsort“ mitten im Grünen bietet. Als zwei Vertreter der Firma aus Tokio, die das Projekt umsetzen will, zu einem Treffen im Dorf ankommen, wird klar, dass ihre Pläne negative Auswirkungen auf die örtliche Wasserversorgung haben und für Unruhe im Dorf sorgen werden. Die widersprüchlichen Absichten der Firma sind sowohl eine Bedrohung für das ökologische Gleichgewicht der einzigartigen Naturlandschaft rund um Mizubiki, als auch für die Lebensweise der Bewohner – mit Folgen, die sich tiefgreifend auf Takumis Leben auswirken.
