- Richard12. Oktober 2025Saw this one on a movie channel ages ago and yeah it’s not great, but it’s also not bad. It’s one of those underwater creature flicks that came out around the same time as The Abyss and Leviathan, but with way less budget and way more B-movie energy. You’ve got a deep-sea military base, a prehistoric monster and a crew of walking stereotypes just waiting to get picked off. The pacing’s slow, takes forever to even see the creature, but once it shows up, it’s got that rubbery, late ‘80s charm. It’s the kind of movie you half watch while folding laundry, then realize you’re actually kind of into it. Not memorable, not essential, but if you’re into retro sci-fi horror with a splash of nuclear panic and decompression gore, it scratches the itch. Watch it once, maybe twice. Then file it under “decent creature feature with a soggy heart.”

Pace is slow, it takes over an hour to see the monster and even then it is nothing special. Generally uninteresting characters spouting a lot of boring dialogue. Director Sean S Cunningham attempts to re-work the famous jump scare at the end of his slasher classic "Friday the 13th" but it is far less effective. Good that metric measurements are used and not imperial ones. Couple of gory scenes but that's it.

The setting is cool, and there are a few tense moments, but the plot is thin and the characters lack depth. Dialogue feels stiff, and the action never really takes off. It's watchable if you're into 80s thrillers, but ultimately, it’s pretty forgettable.

Tief unten auf dem dunklen Meeresboden liegt das Unterwasserlabor Deep Star Six. Seine Crew ist seit über sechs Monaten unter Wasser - eingeschlossen in die drückende Enge der Tauchstation. Ihr Auftrag ist es, eine Raketenabschussbasis auf dem Meeresgrund zu errichten. Schließlich muss nur noch eine riesige Höhle gesprengt werden. Doch das hätte man besser nicht getan: Durch die Explosion wird ein Teil der Tauchstation zerstört - und es erwacht ein riesiges Unterwasserwesen, wie es die Welt bisher nicht gesehen hat. Und dann droht auch noch der Reaktor der Deep Star Six zu explodieren. Ein erbitterlicher Kampf ums nackte Überleben beginnt...
