Der Jobvermittler Dave Kovic wird als Doppelgänger des US-Präsidenten William Harrison Mitchell engagiert, diesen einige Stunden zu vertreten. Da der Präsident währenddessen bei einem Schäferstündchen mit seiner Sekretärin einen Schlaganfall erleidet, entwickeln der Stabschef des Weißen Hauses, Bob Alexander, und Pressesprecher Alan Reed einen Plan, in dem Dave Kovic so lange "regieren" kann, bis der Vizepräsident Gary Nance entmachtet und Bob Alexander zum neuen Vizepräsidenten ernannt wird. Später soll Alexander das Amt des Präsidenten übernehmen.

It reminded me of the Frank Capra classic, Mr Smith Goes to Washington in that it exposes the corruption that we all know exists in our overblown Federal government. But it's really a feel-good comedy that will leave you wishing it were a true story.
