Februar 2025Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz both looking very young in this excellent film as scientists suddenly finding themselves caught up in a much larger world than they imagined of intrigue and political dark agendas. As relevant, profound today as when it was made. No doubt most will, sadly, write it off as a quirky conspiracy-theory type story, none-the-less this is the kind of film that needs constantly making to at least try to wake people up to the reality of how politics and the selfish machinations of the power-hungry try to shape what goes on. - Richard5. Oktober 2025I first saw this as a rental and it felt like one of those “grab it before someone else does” Friday night picks. Back in the day, walking into the video store was half the thrill. The shelves were lined with plastic cases, and Chain Reaction stood out, Keanu Reeves, Morgan Freeman, Rachel Weisz and a tagline that promised science, suspense and explosions. It’s not The Fugitive, though it clearly wants to be. Same director, similar beats, but with a sci-fi twist. The plot doesn’t always make sense. Chain Reaction might not be a masterpiece, but as a rental? It was exactly what you wanted, fast, loud and just smart enough to make you feel like you were watching something almost profound.

In einem Glas Wasser befindet sich genug Energie, um den Bedarf von 100.000 Menschen ein Jahr lang zu decken. Ein Forschungsteam der Chicagoer Universität versucht, diese Theorie zu beweisen. Das Unglaubliche gelingt – und ein junger Mitarbeiter des Projektes entdeckt die letzte fehlende Komponente des Energiepuzzles. Am nächsten Tag allerdings ist sein Professor tot und in seiner Wohnung wird Geld gefunden. Geld, das er angeblich von einem chinesischen Agenten dafür erhalten hat, dass er ihm das Geheimnis der Energiegewinnung verkauft hat. Dem jungen Mann und einer ebenfalls in die Geschichte verwickelten Kollegin bleibt nur die Flucht, um ihre Unschuld zu beweisen. Was nicht einfach ist, wenn das FBI, die Staatspolizei und jede Menge Kopfgeldjäger hinter einem her sind.
