- Jakeys26. Januar 2026Surprised to see the poor critical reception, I reckon this one is a pretty funny, textbook 2000's Jim Carrey movie. I guess on a modern rewatch I'd criticise it for Bruce frankly not being a very good guy. The movie does obviously acknowledge this, but still winds up letting him off a bit too easily.
- ርልዪረ13. Februar 2025Like a few of the reviewers of this film, I must confess, I never have been a fan or particularly keen on films starring Jim Carrey. However, in this particular instance, I am more than happy to make this the exception to the rule and to give credit where credit is due, Jim Carrey's inimitable, zany, OTT style is exactly what makes this film eminently watchable. Personally, I think JC's performance and portrayal of the character Bruce Nolan is superb, quite exceptional and outstanding - he simply excels. The character is played with such enthusiasm and zest, you cannot but help become quickly immersed and absorbed in the storyline, no matter how "outlandish", at first, it may appear. Underpinning the wonderful humour and amazing visual comedy is a nice, touching and moral storyline. The film, like Jim Carrey's style, is fast-paced but gently slows during the more touching and thoughtful moments. This film cannot fail to amuse from the outset and by the end would [well it should] have uplifted and touched you on a few levels but do not want to disclose any of the content for fear of spoiling it for any other potential viewers. This is a role where JC truly excels himself but this review would not be complete without acknowledging the supporting roles portrayed by Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Aniston certainly, in their respective roles, equal to that of Jim Carrey's performance and also, in his own way, Steve Carrell. I guess the moral of the story is that `the grass is not always greener on the other side', and what we consider important, is not necessarily the case but it is a real cool, best of fun, barrel of laughs, roller-coaster of a ride, learning that. I could write at greater length but will refrain from doing so because, as stated previously, do not want to disclose any content to spoil it for anyone else considering watching. Laugh? It had been quite a while since I had so thoroughly enjoyed such natural, side-splitting, belly-aching, exuberant and frequent outbursts of laughter and mirth such as those experienced while watching `Bruce Almighty' and whenever I watch it again, it never fails to amuse, delight and uplift. This film most definitely has the `Feel Good Factor', in bundles. . . . Is this a good film - No, it's good, GOOD! Watch it you'll see. It is indeed, B E A UUUUUTIFUL! As an afterthought having, now, watched this, maybe, just maybe, I will reconsider my opinion of Jim Carrey, give him the benefit of the doubt and might well watch some of his other movies.

This movie is one of those rare comedies that makes you laugh nonstop but also makes you stop and think about your life in a real way. I was surprised by how much heart it had. It starts off full of chaos, jokes, and wild energy, but underneath it all is a story about gratitude, love, and how easy it is to get distracted by what we think we want instead of appreciating what we already have. From the very beginning, the movie pulls you in with its humor, but it keeps you watching because of its emotional message. It feels like the perfect mix of funny and meaningful. Jim Carrey is incredible in this movie. He brings his full personality, energy, and talent into every scene. His expressions, timing, and delivery make the funniest moments unforgettable. But what impressed me the most is how he handles the emotional parts. He does not overplay them. Instead, he shows a character who is frustrated, lost, and desperate for things to make sense. You can feel Bruce’s pain and confusion, and it makes his story relatable. Jennifer Aniston also gives a strong performance as Grace. She brings warmth, kindness, and hurt to her character. The way she looks at Bruce, the way she supports him, and the way she reacts to his mistakes feel real. Their relationship becomes the emotional center of the movie. The concept of a normal person being given the power of God could have easily turned into a silly gimmick, but this movie uses the idea in a thoughtful way. It shows how quick people are to blame the world for their problems without looking at themselves. It also shows how someone who is given unlimited power can still fail if they do not understand what truly matters. Watching Bruce misuse his powers is funny, but watching him slowly learn how to be a better person is even better. The movie uses humor to teach lessons about humility, compassion, and responsibility. It never feels heavy, but the message stays with you. There is a lot of heart in the small moments. Scenes where Bruce watches the people he loves, scenes where he realizes the consequences of his choices, and scenes where he understands he cannot control everything. Those parts give the movie depth. They make the story more than just a comedy. They make it an emotional journey. The movie reminds you that life is messy and unpredictable, but love and gratitude can make it meaningful. Morgan Freeman is perfect in his role. He brings calmness, wisdom, and humor to every line he delivers. His scenes with Bruce are some of the best in the movie because they feel peaceful and powerful at the same time. He guides Bruce without forcing anything. He lets Bruce learn at his own pace. His presence adds a lot to the movie’s warmth. By the end, I felt happy, inspired, and satisfied. Bruce Almighty is a movie with spirit, heart, humor, and a strong message. It completely earned its perfect rating from me.

The only reason it’s 4.5 stars is because social norms have changed pretty significantly since 2000- something and some things are less acceptable today.
