Much better than I remembered. Cgi has ages bit and it is like a video game cut scene. But I enjoyed it a lot

It was a good film to rewatch from time to time. Whenever I come back to this film and rewatch it, I always feel I missed something. When you add this with the “polar express”, i’m reminded of a time when Robert Zemeckis was a person you wanted to go to the theater to see some good storytelling and visual effects. And no, I didn’t forget his back to the future series either. So why only four stars? It’s not a perfect film. Some dialogue gets lost and you’ll need to put the close captioning on just to know what they’re saying. Some visual effects are dated. Small things.

⭐½ – Beowulf – Epic noise, fleeting impact. Ultimately, Beowulf feels a lot like a video game blown up to feature length — plenty of noise, constant action, and some odd walking animations intact - hmm, maybe this is the ministry of funny walks circa 2007. My memory of this one is hazy, both from watching the film and even from reading the epic itself, but I do remember the strong sense that it didn’t unfold the way I expected the story to go. Whether that’s adaptation liberties or tonal choices, it never quite lined up with the weight and gravity the source material has carried for centuries. A big part of the problem is the technology. This was an animated film that arrived a little too early, clearly pushing techniques that needed to be pushed to get us where we are now — but at the time, it landed in an awkward middle ground. Not stylised enough to feel intentional, not realistic enough to pass as live action. The result is something that constantly reminds you you’re watching a technical experiment rather than a myth brought to life. The cast is stacked with huge names, both then and now, and you can feel the effort they’re putting in. Unfortunately, there’s only so much performance can do when it’s filtered through motion capture that never quite convinces. The emotional distance never really closes. It’s frustrating, because the potential was enormous. Beowulf is a story that has survived centuries for a reason. Here, though, it makes a lot of noise, looks impressive in flashes, and then quietly fizzles out without leaving much behind. 🍺 A flat ale that’s lost its head — heavy, dull, and a let-down given what it promised.
