Regie Rollin S. SturgeonBedelia spends every spare moment reading magazine stories, absorbing all the trashy novels she can get, and acquiring aspirations for city life and society. The farm becomes distasteful to her and she pays little heed to her mother's scoldings about wasting her time reading trash. Hiram, the farmhand who is in love with Bedelia, is almost heartbroken when she tells him that he is not her style and announces her intention of going to the city where she will be the cynosure of society, as she appears in its spotlight. At last her opportunity comes, and she is so carried away with herself, she cuts loose and by her behavior, shows her lack of good manners and the necessary polish to make her a shining light in the first circles. She returns to the old homestead, willing to take her place where nature and breeding has best fit her.
