Als zwölftes Expeditionsteam der geheimen Organisation Southern Reach werden vier Wissenschaftlerinnen in ein Gebiet geschickt, das als Area X bekannt ist. Seit vor 30 Jahren ein unbekanntes Ereignis den Landstrich erschütterte, überwuchert dort nun die Natur die letzten Überbleibsel menschlicher Zivilisation. Doch ihr Auftrag ist nicht einfach: Die Gruppe soll nicht nur das Areal und seine Tier- und Pflanzenwelt erforschen, sondern auch die Ursachen für das mysteriöse Unglück aufdecken. - Ahmed Siddiqui14. Oktober 2025A great movie that has hidden depths that won't be easily understandable at first blush. Because of this, it's not a movie that will be liked by everyone. If you're the movie watcher who likes to sink their teeth into a piece of media and likes to understand the deep metaphorical meaning behind things you may have missed while watching the movie for the first time, you'll find a rewarding story about topics like dealing with trauma and how relationships can evolve. If you're not that type of person who wants to do the work to understand a movie, and like your message to be more neatly presented to you, then you'll find this movie to be, on the surface, a slight letdown.
- Robot Monster28. Dezember 2025I love a sci-fi/horror film that leaves me thinking. Annihilation does this along with some excellent visual and audio effects without it being a soup of CGI. The ending forces you to think it out as well and makes it a solid choice for a second watch. The cast is strong and there is very convincing tension befitting the crisis being portrayed. And unlike so many crap films that pander to audiences simply because the leads are female, here is a genuinely interesting and creative sci-fi film that happens to have a very strong female cast.

And by the way that scene with the zombie monster (a bear, I think) is stolen from an old Dungeons and Dragons "choose your adventure" book. That alone pisses me off. Anyway this flick is definitely not for me.
