I liked the actors in this, but only Bautista seemed to be making a serious effort. The fight scenes were good, but the plot was...meh. The movie also could have been shorter.

Review Title: Mad Max? More Like Mad Snooze I couldn’t even finish this movie—not even while binge-watching, which basically means it lost to my laundry pile for entertainment value. I wasn’t sure if the director was going for a Mad Max apocalypse vibe or just a general “oops, the world ended, let’s make it artsy” thing, but either way, the result felt like watching a blender try to edit a film. The cuts were choppier than a discount salad. Or maybe it was just me. Maybe I’ve finally overdosed on Hollywood’s magical subliminal programming wand and my brain now automatically rejects every recycled apocalypse cliché. Either way, this movie is proof that even the end of the world can get boring. Would recommend only if you’re training for a nap marathon. 💤

Not Only the World go Wasted There's a version of "Afterburn" that works. The post-apocalyptic premise has genuine B-movie appeal, the cast brings more commitment to the material than it deserves, and the basic building blocks of a fun, trashy action romp are all technically present. The problem is that the film never figures out how to assemble those blocks into anything that moves, breathes, or gives you a reason to keep watching. The performances are probably the most charitable thing you can say about it. The actors do their best with what they're given, and occasionally you catch glimpses of the more entertaining film they seem to think they're in, particularly in the odd moment of physical comedy or gruff chemistry. But good actors can only carry bad material so far, and the script here drops them very early. The writing is where everything collapses. The dialogue is flat and functional at best, actively painful at worst, and the story follows the most predictable path available at every single junction without the self awareness or energy to make that familiarity fun. Post-apocalyptic storytelling has a rich tradition to draw from and "Afterburn" borrows the aesthetics without understanding what made any of its influences actually work. The direction compounds the problem rather than compensating for it. The action sequences have no visual personality, shot and cut in a way that communicates events without generating any excitement, and the pacing drags through stretches that a more confident filmmaker would have either energized or cut entirely. The score is background noise dressed up as atmosphere, present but entirely forgettable. At 105 minutes it feels considerably longer, which is the most damning thing you can say about an action film. "Afterburn" isn't memorably bad. It's just an exhausting slog with actors who deserved much better material.

Dime a dozen ... brual writing and acting. This looks like another Stallone snoozefest. I guess there's a certain niche that likes these kind of mindless drool.

Not too shabby. Drax was the only one really putting in work. Not a bad popcorn flick.

Not a candidate for an oscar, but it is entertaining. The fight scenes are very good and several outcomes are a surprise. Worth a watch.
