Operation: 12 Strong handelt von einer kleinen militärischen Sondereinheit um Captain Mitch Nelson, die kurz nach den Anschlägen vom 11. September auf geheimer Mission in Afghanistan unterwegs ist. Auf Pferden reiten die zwölf Special-Forces-Soldaten in den Krieg gegen die zahlenmäßig überlegenen Taliban, schaffen es aber dennoch, dank militärischer Erfahrung, der Zusammenarbeit mit einem afghanischen Kriegsherrn und strategischem Geschick den Feind zurückzudrängen. Ihr Einsatz läuft solange wie geplant, bis sie in einen Hinterhalt geraten und plötzlich in einer Festung festsitzen. Für die in der Heimat zurückgelassenen Ehefrauen wächst die Sorge um eine Rückkehr ihrer in dem fernen Land ums Überleben kämpfenden Männer derweil ins Unermessliche.

    As a fan of military films, I’d say 12 Strong lands solidly in the “worth watching” category. It’s not groundbreaking, but it delivers exactly what you’d expect from a war movie based on true events—intense action, brotherhood, and a dose of patriotism. Chris Hemsworth leads the cast with conviction, and while the character development isn’t super deep, the film still manages to honor the real-life bravery of the soldiers involved. The pacing can be uneven, and some scenes feel a bit Hollywood-polished, but overall, it’s a gripping ride. Based on the general consensus and my own take, I’d give it a 3.5 out of 5—not perfect, but definitely a solid entry for fans of the genre.

    Solid modern battle movie. Clear objectives with obstacles. Did feel a little gun-ho and embellished at times, though.

    12 Sting is based on a true story making this a movie to watch for a better understanding of the USA involvement in Afghanistan. It depicts the difficulty of the mission, but somehow seems contrived. I'm glad I watched 12 Strong one time.

    Compelling Story, Average Execution "12 Strong" tells the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11, as they work alongside an Afghan warlord to combat the Taliban. While the premise is compelling and the film is based on true events, it struggles to rise above being a standard war movie. The movie boasts solid performances, especially from Chris Hemsworth, whose charisma anchors the narrative. The action sequences are intense and visually striking, capturing the brutal reality of modern warfare. However, the script feels formulaic, with a predictable structure and underdeveloped supporting characters. The emotional beats, while present, often fail to hit as hard as they could due to a lack of deeper character exploration. The film also leans heavily on clichés, offering little fresh perspective on the complexities of war or the relationships between the soldiers and their Afghan allies. Despite its ambition, "12 Strong" plays it safe, delivering an entertaining yet forgettable experience. It's a decent watch for fans of military action dramas, but it lacks the depth or originality to truly stand out.
