A series of mystical ritual murders occur in a small town. The investigation reaches a dead end, and the locals say that a mermaid, about whom there are many legends, is to blame. A specialist in serial killers, Yuriy Bakhtin, is sent from Moscow to help the investigation. He does not believe in mermaids, but the more he immerses himself in the work, the more he begins to doubt the correctness of his views.
