Despite being somewhat familiar with NXIVM, I was surprised to see that this series was two seasons long. I’m so used to these cult documentaries being about 6-8 episodes, tops, so I was questioning why it was so long. First off, despite being aware of NXIVM and DOS, I apparently was still barely skimming the surface. I absolutely loved this season. I feel like the key takeaway (aside from the obvious “cults are bad”) is that if you’re going to be a narcissistic sociopath that starts an evil sex cult, DON’T RECRUIT HOLLYWOOD! When you have filmmakers in your closest circle, they are going to record everything before they even realize they have a story. Filmmakers document everything, thinking that maybe they’ll make something with it later. That’s why this documentary is able to be two seasons, and so far, is one of the best cult docuseries that I’ve ever watched. I can’t wait to binge season 2 later today.
