The jokes land with a wink, the sets creak with character and Fred Gwynne’s Herman is the beating heart, goofy, gentle and always trying his best. It’s a sitcom that never mocked its monsters, but celebrated their quirks. Watching it again is like curling up with a bowl of cereal and a blanket, back when Sky Channel or RTL might surprise you with a rerun that made you laugh and feel oddly seen.
