Ryn, the central mermaid, is haunting — ethereal and brutal, both predator and innocent. She arrives on land searching for her sister and ends up entangled in the complexities of human life — love, jealousy, morality, and the constant tug between belonging and instinct. As more mermaids surface, the tension builds between ocean and shore, secrecy and exposure. The humans caught in between are forced to confront what makes someone “human” when the lines blur beyond recognition. The romantic subplot, though present, never overwhelms the greater story — this is not a love story with scales, but a story about identity and alienation.
