It follows people living far outside the comforts of modern society, and the combination of survival, hunting, trapping, extreme weather, and backwoods ingenuity makes every episode entertaining. What really makes the series work is the variety of personalities and environments. Each cast member has a different approach to surviving, and watching them prepare for brutal winters, find food, build, hunt, and deal with problems most people never encounter gives the show a genuine sense of adventure. It's gritty without being overly dramatic, and there's plenty of personality and humor mixed into the survival aspects. Some situations are obviously produced for television, but that doesn't take away much from the entertainment value. 5/5 — Addictive backwoods survival television with great characters, plenty of adventure, and a ton of rugged atmosphere.
