Semaga is a master of painting matryoshka dolls, a man of the "old school": he loves wood, manual labor and order, in which the man is the head of the family. His track record includes the smallest matryoshka doll in Russia. But times are changing, Semaga loses his job, and his wife Violetta climbs the career ladder. Relations in the family are tense, the teenage daughter considers her father a boring skuf, and only the eight-year-old son still maintains a warm relationship with his dad. After being fired from the matryoshka workshop, Semaga feels like he is finally losing control of his own life. In a desperate attempt to regain the respect of his family, he decides to open a manicure salon - together with his slacker friend Antokha. Confident that he can handle nails as easily as matryoshka dolls, Semaga unexpectedly finds himself in the world of gel coatings and women's talk. And this new experience changes him more than he could have imagined.
