Set in the same world as Bubblegum Crisis, it strips away many of that show’s more comedic, pop-infused elements and digs into the darker corners of MegaTokyo. Instead of idol performances and stylish heroics, we get street-level cops, broken bodies, and the emotional toll of fighting rogue boomers in a system stacked against ordinary people. The series explores how technology warps policing, justice, and even the definition of humanity, often leaving its protagonists morally compromised or traumatised. That more serious, procedural tone complements rather than competes with Bubblegum Crisis, expanding the universe in a way that feels grounded and adult. AD Police Files stands as both a fascinating companion piece and a sharp, self-contained slice of classic cyberpunk anime storytelling.
