We're anticipating the arrival of the birthday girl that our guests have come to celebrate. Friends, unrequited lovers, acquaintances and strangers. She's late. People are lit by phones and subtle lights. Kevin, Sarah's boyfriend, uses this opportunity to use the washroom. Mike and Scott are there, preoccupied with finding meaning on their cells. Our last guests, Candice and Nick are there too, two strangers bound by a secret. Anticipation is high, but where is our guest of honour? Candice is impatient and goes to the window to see, the birthday girl in her car fighting with her boyfriend. In an unfortunate coincidence the bathroom is right by the front door, Kevin emerges, the lights go on and everyone yells Surprise.
