- Ecto-1A14. september 2025🪖 Saving the world was never part of the training 🪂 An underrated classic among classics, Spies Like Us is a buddy comedy that fits perfectly into Dan Aykroyd’s repertoire. Aykroyd shone on the small screen during his Saturday Night Live days, but he was equally brilliant on the big screen throughout the 1980s. Known for his comedic performances and sophisticated technical jargon, much like the terminology heard in Ghostbusters the year before, Aykroyd had such a distinctive voice that you could often tell almost immediately when he had written or co-written a film himself. Chevy Chase, meanwhile, was practically a guaranteed choice whenever a buddy comedy was up for grabs. The film’s writing, timing, and pacing occasionally feel reminiscent of Monty Python, and yes, it really is that good. It is a shame Aykroyd and Chase only co-headlined two films together, while their other shared appearances ranged from supporting roles to the sort of cameo you could miss while reaching for the popcorn. Whether you’re a fan of Aykroyd, Chase, both or neither, Spies Like Us is still well worth watching. Movies like this can either turn someone into a fan of an actor, a genre or even just this one wonderfully ridiculous film.
