Still amazed Egerton did as well as he did. Really great performance. Love Elton's music.

This film does a lot right that most biopics get wrong. It’s far less concerned with strict accuracy than with telling a compelling story, and that choice pays off. The praise lavished on Bohemian Rhapsody looks embarrassing by comparison. Rocketman understands that fidelity to feeling matters more than fidelity to facts. There’s no particular affinity here for Elton John, and that hasn’t changed, but the experience was still enjoyable. The integration of music feels closer to Across the Universe than to the standard musical biopic formula, using songs as emotional punctuation rather than historical reenactment. The performances are strong, and the major moments land as intended. Still, it’s difficult to fully invest in a story when the music itself doesn’t resonate. The film’s honesty about addiction as a response to emotional absence is clear and effective, and that focus deserves respect. It’s not something worth revisiting, but it’s easy to recommend over the many melodramatic biopics that collapse under the false promise of being both accurate and interesting.

    More style than substance.

“all right, don’t break your neck sucking your own cock.” falls prey to the trappings of the biopic genre, but god it’s so entertaining. the creativity with which they utilize the medium to evoke certain moods adds a distinct personality to the film, like his first performance at the troubadour and both he and the audience start to levitate. it’s also so well acted on every front, and the musical numbers hit most of the time.

Taron played the part of Elton John really well with some proper solid acting making it really believable. I think he was the right person to play the part. The beginning of the movie felt too musically for me. It felt like song after song after song at the start but as the movie progressed you actually got to learn more about Elton. The downward spiral that Elton took was portrayed brilliantly in the film.

Just as dazzling as Elton John.🎹🎶 I had never heard any of Elton's music and didn't know anything about him so this movie introduced me to the tumultuous life of the iconic music star. Firstly I have to talk about Taron Egerton's performance. He was shockingly good. I had seen him only in Kingsman and liked him in that movie but I had no clue that he had such a range. His eyes are so expressive, I understood half of his feelings without him having to say a word. And Egerton himself sang all the songs in the movie and he must be praised for it. Seriously he was fabulous. He embodied Elton John perfectly, his style, his mannerisms and he pulled off all the weird extravagant costumes which Elton wore himself in his concerts. I usually don't look at costumes in movies but in this one I have to praise the numerous ecstatic costumes, they were beautiful. I loved Taron's chemistry with Jamie Bell who played Bernie, Elton's lyricist. Their relationship and bromance elevated the film. The film follows many music biopics tropes but its innovative and takes more risks than other films of the genre. The film drags a bit in the 2nd act with Elton's downfall into drugs. But the 1st and 3rd acts were really great and gripping. I loved the opening of the film it was magnificent, I was transfixed by the Elton John's persona as I knew nothing about him. We see his his problems, struggles with various addictions, his efforts to cope up with his troubled past and his quest to find the love he never received from his hardened cold unloving father, it made the whole story more compelling. The film is a visual spectacle! It has such insane shots, it brilliantly connects Elton's vivid fantasy with his real world and it feels so energetic and awe inspiring. I think the film should've been nominated for its cinematography and art design at awards. I don't remember all the songs in the movie but Yellow brick road, I want love and Love me again were my favorites. This movie unlike other Music biopics is a full fledged musical, the songs break into big dance numbers with graceful choreography.
