The violence was unexpectedly over the top for what was billed as a heist film, but I suppose that's a sign of the times lol

The direction lacks confidence, and the movie often feels hesitant, as if unsure of what kind of story it wants to tell. The writing is one of its weakest points. The script struggles to create believable stakes or engaging dynamics, resulting in scenes that feel forced rather than natural. Characters are thinly sketched, making it hard to care about their choices or outcomes. Performances try to elevate the material, but there's only so much that can be done with such limited substance. In the end, "Play Dirty" is a forgettable experience. It's not aggressively bad, but it's dull, unfocused, and lacking personality. A movie that promises edge and attitude, but delivers something far more timid and unremarkable.
- RicFlix126. december 2025As a big fan Point Blank & Payback, as well as Shane Black, I went into this with high hopes. I was met with a ho hum, even if serviceable action flick with Play Dirty. As others have noted, this has got solid potential but tends to morph into a Fast & Furious-esque team caper flick even if it does it capably.
