Jill (Sasha Grey) er øjeblikkets stjerne på filmhimlen, og Nick (Elijah Wood) er hendes største fan. Efter at have vundet en konkurrence på internettet, skal han spise middag med sit idol. Pludseligt ringer en mand ved navn Chord og fortæller, at Jill har aflyst mødet, men at han kan hjælpe Nick med at komme tæt på sit idol. Det eneste, Nick skal gøre, er, at følge hende via sin laptop, for Chord har adgang til Jills telefon og hendes computers webcam. Snart indser Nick, at han bare er en brik i et ondskabsfuldt og skræmmende spil, hvor Jill spiller den egentlige hovedrolle. Kan Nick redde Jill, før det er for sent?

I have no idea why the reviews are so bad. This was a really fun watch, plenty of twists and turns. Yeah, there's a lot of dumb moments, but not every movie needs to be an exact carbon copy of real life. Sometimes we get to just have fun.

I really don't see how this movie deserves so many bad reviews. At the very least, it is interesting formally and esthetically. It gives a whole new meaning to the classic drama concept of unity of time and space: About 80% of the action takes place within the confines of a laptop computer screen, and the rest is confined to other screens; most of it takes place within a few hours, and the rest is introduced via video playback. The production design, which in this case is actually UI design, is beautiful. The acting is nothing special but adequate. The thriller aspect has its interesting twists and turns, but that's not really the point. I do not believe the social commentary should be taken too seriously either. The point of the movie is providing a reflection of how media construct the world, and today's media are digital and delivered via the internet. If you don't just like to be taken on a ride, but if you appreciate if it's done in a smart way, give this one a chance. Oh, and of course: God bless Sasha Grey!

The movie seems promising at first but slowly loses focus towards the middle and ultimately it becomes quite a mess. It's a shame because I loved the concept of this.
