Watching it now on 4K, the film feels newly alive—the colors, the sharpness, and the sweeping set pieces really shine in a way I don’t remember from my childhood. The story feels like a more mature precursor to a James Bond film—full of espionage, mistaken identity, and stylish suspense—but with a tighter, more grounded edge. It’s easy to see how influential it’s been on the spy genre as a whole. Of course, this is also a showcase of Alfred Hitchcock at the height of his craft. His direction is precise and confident, building tension in ways that still feel effective today. That said, you can sometimes sense the limits imposed by the Hays Code—particularly in how certain themes are handled. It’s interesting to imagine what Hitchcock might have done without those constraints, as his storytelling already pushes right up against those boundaries.
- EnochLight31. juli 2025Beautifully shot in Vista-Vision, this 1959 classic "spy thriller" is a comedic romp across the country. Largely considered a masterpiece for its themes of deception, mistaken identity, and moral relativism in the Cold War era, Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, and James Mason are simply magnificent in their respective roles (speaking of James Mason, I'd wager that Mike Meyers' accent was inspired by him when he portrayed British General Ed Fenech in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds"). The new 4K HDR transfer is excellent, and a must-watch for true fans of cinema. Do it!

But it was Ok. 5/10 *UPDATE* After some more consideration of film creation in a historical sense I think I decided to afford NxNW another star. 6/10
