Lovely Linda Mason has crooner Jim Hardy head over heels, but suave stepper Ted Hanover wants her for his new dance partner after femme fatale Lila Dixon gives him the brush. Jim's supper club, Holiday Inn, is the setting for the chase by Hanover and manager Danny Reed. The music's the thing.

Holy cow, this holiday classic is racist AF. No Bing, the act would not go over better in blackface.

An unforgettable classic, this is the title that introduced the song "White Christmas." Hard to tell who's better, Bing Crosby or Fred Astaire.

I watched this after finding out that White Christmas is loosely based on this movie. Overall, it was about what I expected from a movie of this era, with these actors, which is a lot of amazing singing and dancing. I was a little bored with it though. Beyond the White Christmas song, there's no other really memorable songs. This movie does have a controversial blackface scene, and some questionable depictions of the black maid and her children. At the time it was made, I don't think the intention was to be offensive. Blackface in Vaudeville was still fairly mainstream. Today it's definitely considered offensive and that may make this movie inappropriate for some audiences. That being said, reality is reality, and movies are often just a snapshot of the times they were filmed.
