- Kevin Ward2. juli 2025When Mann puts Ferrari into Cruz’s control, you really don’t need a Driver. This was pretty underwhelming, at best. This is more in line with the 2023 corporate biopic trend than it is a sports racing drama. The racing elements are definitely one of the standouts. The shots of bright red Ferraris and Maseratis zipping in and out of the streets of Milan and through the Italian countryside are gorgeous. Sadly we only get those in the last third of the film. Penelope Cruz elevates the rest of the material which isn’t much more than an italian soap opera / love triangle. Cruz is absolutely captivating in every moment, though. Outside of her performance and the racing in the finale, there’s not much to recommend.

- Varun19. oktober 2024Quite a meh movie. Can you believe there’s only one full racing scene in the entire movie? Yes it’s a biopic about the man but I’m sure a lot of people are gonna show up for this film expecting more car scenes but you’re out of luck. Majority of it is a soap drama about his love life. Also I just wanna note that I had difficulty hearing some of the dialogue and I’m guessing it was the bad sound mixing but it could also be the fault of the theatre system. Penelope Cruz steals the show with her amazing acting. I thought Adam Driver did a great job too but I just couldn’t find myself getting invested in his character. I don’t think they balanced the personal and professional life stories well. Michael Mann is known for directing enthralling intense scenes and was disappointed to find a slow placed movie with either boring or no background music at all. I’m surprised Daniel Pemberton (the guy who made the incredible score for the Spiderverse movies) made not even one memorable or noticeable soundtrack. There was definitely one awkward scene transition that was sloppy and even felt the movie ended on a weird tone. Also the CGI for the car crashes were awful, like one of them was literally Bollywood level vfx. It’s funny how a kids movie like Gran Turismo (2023) has way more thrilling racing scenes than this film. I don’t think the final race was even explained properly, I had no idea what the rules were and how long it’s supposed to be or why it was special in the world of racing. There were a few juicy monologues but everything else felt robotic and flat. Also who really cares that much about Enzo Ferrari, of course since it’s a biopic we wanna know something about his personal life but most of us want to see how he built the company and the impact he had in the world of racing and cars yet most of what we get is his love affair dramas and grief stories. And I kid you not, this is the first time I’ve ever seen so many people just walk out of their seats momentarily during the movie, even during heavy emotional scenes. If y’all wanna see actual good and entertaining movies about racers and cars then check out Ford v Ferrari (2019) and Rush (2013).
