Saw this one in cinema, because when Arnold’s holding railguns and jumping out of planes, you don’t wait for home release. He plays U.S. Marshal John “The Eraser” Kruger, a witness protection specialist who makes people disappear, literally and bureaucratically. When Vanessa Williams uncovers a weapons conspiracy, Arnold’s job is to keep her alive while dodging betrayal, bullets and crocodiles. Chuck Russell directs with slick pacing and just enough techno thriller gloss. The railgun effects were cutting edge back then, even if the CGI crocs now look like rejected Jurassic Park assets. James Caan plays the corrupt mentor with smirking menace and the supporting cast is stacked with 90's character actors doing their thing. I liked the stunts, the paranoia and the way it made cinema nights feel explosive, slick and proudly over the top with x-ray scopes, plane dives and Arnold doing what Arnold does best. So when I got the change to buy it later on DVD I just had too.

It’s one of those movies that feels like it was built purely for a Friday night with snacks and zero expectations. Some bits still land and have that satisfying punch, but a lot of it leans into that slightly awkward, over-the-top vibe that hasn’t aged great. The middle stretch kind of wanders, then it snaps back into gear just in time. Honestly, it’s more entertaining than it probably deserves to be. You can half-watch it, zone out, and still enjoy the ride. Not something I’d go out of my way to revisit, but it does the job if you just want something loud and uncomplicated.

I saw this as a kid when it first came out, and as a huge Arnold fan I thought it was pretty bad at the time. On rewatch it’s not as bad as I remember, but the third act gets extremely silly and whether you enjoy it will depend on how funny you think it is and how much you want to suspend disbelief.

Screw shank nail filled grenades and rail guns with classic secret agent shootouts on airplanes followed by a game of parachute pistol chicken with a 727?!?! Pssssshhh! Say no more!

Middling Schwarzenegger actioner hitting all the obligatory notes--so much so that they even recap the "tooling up" sequence--during the opening credits. What could have been an interesting chase thriller quickly becomes a big dumb paint-by-numbers affair. Not actually bad, but forgettable.
