Bugonia Ratings & Reviews
- hmpowe325. november 2025Great movie. Great performance by Meth Damon and cat pee woman.
- Austin Burke2. november 2025Bugonia is a strange, albeit honest, examination of the human condition and a look at how trauma can dictate decision-making. At the same time, this is an often-insane dark comedy that kept me on the edge of my seat and provided one of the most fascinating experiences of the year. Lanthimos is in his bag with the visuals, cinematography, and ability to get the best out of two top-tier actors. Where we ultimately wind up will frustrate some, but the way this film approaches the journey was far more entertaining than even I expected.

- Dale Leer13 timer sidenI went into Bugonia completely blind, never saw the original, didn’t know the premise, didn’t even know what emotional setting I was supposed to be in. I thought I was walking into a normal thriller. Instead, the movie basically grabbed me by the collar and said, “Hope you weren’t planning on understanding anything for the next two hours,” and then launched me into absolute madness. Very quickly, I found myself trying to figure out whether the tin‑foil‑hat crowd were total lunatics or if they were secretly the only ones who know the truth. Every five minutes I was switching sides like I was watching a conspiracy Wimbledon match. One moment I’m thinking, “These people need a straight jacket,” and the next I’m whispering, “Hang on… what if they’re actually right though?” And then there’s the friend, the sweet, trusting guy who clearly doesn’t fully grasp what he’s being dragged into. I genuinely felt bad for him. He comes across as someone who either doesn’t realise the weight of what he’s doing or is just too gentle and easily influenced to push back. Watching him get swept up in the chaos made me want to reach into the screen and say, “Mate, you don’t have to follow him. You can just go home Buddy, you don't have to go though with this.” The whole film has this chaotic, paranoid energy that never lets you settle. It’s funny in that slightly unhinged way where you’re laughing but also thinking, “who should I be rooting for” It keeps you guessing, keeps you off‑balance, and never once plays it safe. So yeah, even without any knowledge of the OG, Bugonia totally worked for me. It’s wild, weird, funny, and constantly makes you question if they are crazy or correct.
- Kevin Ward18. november 2025What a blast! Plemons and Stone bouncing off each other is pure pleasure from their deadpan volleys to the way each scene seems to tilt depending on who’s holding the power in the moment. I’m so glad I caught this in a theater, because it looks fantastic. The production design and those slightly skewed Yorgos compositions just pop on a big screen. And I loved that ending. From the moment Plemons teleports to the final shot, it’s Yorgos fully speaking my language. It’s strange, playful, and weirdly triumphant.

- Joe G27. januar 2026This is what The Killing of a Sacred Deer attempted to accomplish. The metaphor here is heavy-handed in the best possible way, pushed so far that it becomes destabilizing. At no point is it entirely clear whether the main character believes what he’s saying, is constructing the story for his idiot cousin, or is fully deluded by grief. That ambiguity is the point. What’s most unsettling is how often rational viewers will find themselves agreeing with him anyway. The film quietly exposes how thin the line is between delusion and clarity when systems are so obviously broken. Beneath the absurdity is a blunt message: we have far more in common with one another than with our corporate, alien, managerial overlords pretending to be human. It’s sharp, uncomfortable, and deeply controlled, the kind of film that doesn’t soften its intent for accessibility. Likely to be overlooked, but it shouldn’t be. This deserves to be considered among Yorgos Lanthimos’s best work. I’m a little tired of Emma Stone and think they need a break from working together though.

- Asinium22. januar 2026Lots of twists and turns, an enjoyable watch.
- brycoward4 dage sidenAn uncomfortable, paranoid, masterpiece. Bugonia has three distinct sequences which drew me in, each with it's own tone and pace, but the narrative flow of one sequence to the next is perfect (although the last was unexpected). It's a movie that invites you to live inside the muck of a conspiracists mind, and rewards you for it.
- PapaHamzeh5 dage sidenI loved this movie. Emma Stone was good as always. Jesse Plemons is so damn good it drives me nuts, I truly think he is just not respected by viewers. Score was very good. Ending was superb. Stavros was good because I liked him, but he has a long way to go before his screen presence in bigger stuff is more impactful; I think he is better on Tires, and not because he fits there or something, but I think he feels more comfortable there. Aidan plays an autistic person very well, such a sad story for him. Great film. Captures the frenetic feeling of conspiracy theorists quite well.
- Audrey Layman9. november 2025First Reformed, but Yorgos style
- Salman Naseer5 dage sidenThis movie was bizarrely gruesome, intense and quite suspenseful. As far as thriller goes, this might be one of those that keeps you on the edge of your seat trying to cope up with what's happening and also wanting to leave it at times. But overall it's a great movie to watch especially with all the performances of the actors.
- FairLeap6 dage sidenBugonia is strange as hell, unapologetically weird, unsettling, and not for everyone, but I genuinely enjoyed it. It leans hard into its oddness and commits fully, which makes it oddly compelling. Definitely a “what did I just watch?” film, but in a good way.
