- Garrett Wilkins30. august 2026Buddy gets its strangest trick right almost immediately. It doesn't just parody a children's television show—it actually feels like one. Casper Kelly recreates that aggressively cheerful world with candy-colored sets, awkward songs, and the kind of forced positivity that starts feeling weird before anything explicitly horrible happens. Keegan-Michael Key is perfectly cast as Buddy, giving him such a relentlessly pleasant voice that his growing hostility becomes even funnier and more unsettling. Delaney Quinn gives the children's side of the story more weight than I expected, while Cristin Milioti brings a different kind of unease once the film steps outside Buddy's world. The problem is that the joke doesn't always develop as well as it does in those early scenes. The film becomes less focused as it moves between the children's-show horror and what is happening in the real world, and some of the later ideas don't hit with the same force as the opening setup. I still like how committed Kelly is to the premise. He rarely breaks the illusion just to remind us that we're watching a horror-comedy, and that makes the stranger moments feel much more natural. Buddy doesn't completely sustain its own joke, but there is something genuinely bizarre about watching something this cheerful slowly reveal how wrong it is.
- SirMonkalot2. august 2026Everybody needs a Buddy! This was SO GREAT, it’s exactly what I wanted it to be. The set design, the practical effects, the humour were all top notch. I’ve seen a bunch of these mascot/animatronics horror movies but this one was the best! Can’t wait to see what Casper Kelly does next! He definitely knows how to make a great horror comedy.
- DOAN FSD29. august 2026If you want to have a morbidly awesome indie horror experience, and if you are a psychopath like me, you'll love this film. The visual of it is pretty accurate to the time period and there really isn't anything on the market like BUDDY. If you've been suffering through those IP horrors like Pooh and the Grinch; watching this almost wipes the dirty pallet clean and shows that original characters that are identical to ones that existed can trump ripping the character out of a children's book for the sake of putting it into a nasty situation.

Also the perfect length. Casper knows how to keep it short and sweet. It stars Cristin Milioti (Quaid Army!), Topher Grace, and Patton Oslwalt!? Way to bury the lede! Love that Clint Howard was in this but not that pos Ice Cream Man film Also BACK TO BACK Eric Bauza films! Hell yeah!! (Had no idea it was Keegan Michael Key & Michael Shannon in those roles lolol wild stuff and I love it) Cristin’s gonna get sued by Jayden Daniels wearing that LSU-coded #5 jersey! You would think Buddy would know the two were related but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Legitimately disappointed there was no credits gag lmao An insane amount of similarities between my double feature. From the themes of power and spouting evil as guidance to the fact that it’s “children’s entertainment” for adults… A fun double feature! Watched at Warren Regal 21 Currently Ranked #41/149 in 2026 Ranked
