Blending is Trending follows the ups-and-downs of blended whiskey in America. After thirteen long, somewhat dry, years during Prohibition, America was back in the whiskey game on December 5, 1933, with the passing of the 21st Amendment of the Constitution which repealed the ban on the production and sale of alcohol. Stocks were in short supply and needed to be stretched, and many drinkers had already acquired a taste for lighter Canadian blends during Prohibition, so blended whiskey took off. It would emerge to dominate the category in America, before a wave of nostalgia would bring back a demand for the heartier whiskey like the bourbons available prior to Prohibition. As the popularity of bourbon soared, it did so at the expense of blends, leading them to almost disappear from store shelves. It wasn't until a recent interest of distilleries, looking to differentiate themselves in a crowded market, would lead them to look to something old to become new again and blends began another comeback. Today, with a dedication to creating quality products, blending is on an upward trend we haven't seen since the 1930s and Blending is Trending walks you through the entire journey, told by industry experts who have seen it all. Those experts include: Freddie Noe of Jim Beam, Al Young of Four Roses, Bourbon Historians and authors Michael Veach and Chet Zoeller, Jim Rutledge of Four Roses, Royce Neeley of Neeley Family Distillery, Brent Elliott of Four Roses and Jackie Zykan of Old Forester.
