- Manuel Frangis27. april 2025I just watched Blades of Glory, and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie is pure comedy gold. It is loud, absurd, ridiculous from start to finish — and that is exactly why it works so perfectly. You do not go into a movie about figure skating rivals teaming up expecting it to be normal. You go in hoping for madness, and Blades of Glory delivers that and then some. Will Ferrell and Jon Heder are perfect together. Ferrell plays Chazz Michael Michaels, the ultimate bad boy of figure skating, and Heder plays Jimmy MacElroy, the fancy, polished golden boy. Their characters could not be more different, and that is what makes it so funny. They bicker, fight, sabotage each other — and then somehow have to become skating partners. Watching them try to survive each other while trying to win gold is where all the best moments come from. Will Ferrell is completely unhinged in this role, and it is perfect. He says and does the most ridiculous stuff with total confidence. Every time he opens his mouth, you know something insane is about to happen. Jon Heder plays off him perfectly with his awkward, whiny energy. Their chemistry is wild because they are such opposites, but they sell every scene, whether they are screaming at each other or trying to pull off the craziest skating routines ever. The skating scenes are hilarious. The moves they come up with are so over-the-top and insane that you cannot help but laugh. They are doing flips, impossible lifts, and spins that would get someone banned in real life, but that is what makes it awesome. The movie knows exactly how ridiculous the sport can look and just leans all the way into it. The supporting cast is just as good. Will Arnett and Amy Poehler play a creepy, evil skating sibling duo who will do whatever it takes to win. Their scenes are insane and hilarious in the most uncomfortable way. Jenna Fischer plays Katie, who gets caught between helping Jimmy and dealing with her crazy skating family. She brings a little bit of heart to the madness, but even her scenes are full of goofy moments. The costumes and music in this movie deserve their own shoutout. The outfits are insane — sparkles, flames, feathers, you name it — and the music choices somehow make everything even funnier. Whether it is a dramatic skate-off to a cheesy song or a slow-motion dramatic fall, everything is exaggerated to the max and it is so good. I give Blades of Glory 5 out of 5 stars because it is one of the funniest, most ridiculous sports comedies ever. It takes a ridiculous idea, runs with it, and never looks back. Will Ferrell and Jon Heder are all-in, the jokes land, the skating is absurd, and the whole thing just works way better than it has any right to. Overall Blades of Glory is an insanely fun, high-energy comedy that knows exactly what it is and totally owns it. It is weird, wild, and full of so many laugh-out-loud moments that you will be quoting it forever. If you love sports comedies that go completely off the rails, this is a must-watch.
