- DavidBunnyDad15 timer sidenI was skeptical of Backrooms, expecting some kind of Paranormal Activity bullshit where people slow-walk through hallways for 100 minutes, but I'm happy to say Kane Parsons' film has a lot more on its mind. There are real characters and a story here. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve do a fine job of drawing us in, and once the horror comes, it really delivers. Good stuff.

Hiding in plain sight along with its ambiguity there's something not quite right about the place, uneasy, so adding 'entitys' that lurk behind a corner make this a unique piece of storytelling.

Sometimes, keeping a mystery simple, grounded in more of a reality, and actually scary is infinitely better than trying to make it "intellectual."

Its open-ended finale is certain to spark endless debate, especially among longtime fans of the mythos. Some horror audiences may find its slow-burn psychological approach frustrating, particularly those expecting a more conventional scare fest. But for viewers willing to surrender to its strange rhythms and oppressive mood, The Backrooms is one of the most haunting and uniquely unsettling horror films A24 has released in a while.
