He buys an engagement ring, but loses it during the excitement in the kitchen. The ring turns up in Marie's plum pudding. Pietro is exposed and discharged. Aunt Amanda is heartbroken. During the excitement, Marie and Tom elope. But it all turns out well when Pietro shows up with an official letter signed by the Italian consul, certifying that Pietro is the true Count of Montevideo and heir to a vast fortune.
