Sets a landmark in cinematic tension a grueling, visceral chase movie that keeps your heart in your throat from start to finish. The way he builds the whole world of the Maya civilization is incredible. When I first saw it, the movie actually stayed on my mind for days. One of its greatest strengths is the casting choice by using local, indigenous actors instead of Hollywood stars, Gibson achieved a rare sense of raw realism. If mainstream actors had been hired, the film likely would have lost its authentic edge. I highly recommend it; next to The Passion of the Christ, this is easily my favorite Mel Gibson directorial project.
