- stolteclan17. april 2026A lot of fun and the animation is intense and very well done. My only beef is with the shortcuts taken in the developing of the relationship between the two main characters. It’s an intense and fun watch!
- Kevin Ward4. august 2025All You Need is Kill gives us a beautifully animated adaptation of the same story that inspired Edge of Tomorrow, but this time predominantly from Rita’s perspective—a volunteer stationed near an eerie, alien flower named “Darol.” When it suddenly blooms into a horrifying death trap, unleashing monstrous creatures that shred through the base, Rita dies... and then wakes up right back at the start of her day, doomed to relive it over and over. Each cycle brings her closer to mastering the combat skills and muscle memory needed to survive. Rita is a compelling protagonist, and her arc deepens once she crosses paths with Keiji, a quiet but resourceful man who’s also been stuck in the same loop. I haven’t read the source material—just seen the Cruise/Blunt film. The story follows a lot of the familiar beats, but one of the more compelling differences is that Rita and Keiji are caught in the loop together, and if either one of them dies, the whole day resets—which adds both tactical and emotional weight to their partnership. The animation here is top-tier, with slick action choreography and a great visual contrast between the vibrant alien biology and the mech suits worn by the soldiers that pop beautifully in animation. That said, it does suffer from the same issue the live-action film ran into. Once the looping stops—or is significantly reduced—the story momentum shifts gears. There’s a naturally cinematic rhythm that occurs when you’re thrust into the live-die-repeat mode, so it’s almost inevitable to feel a bit jarring when that cycle ends. Still, the emotional stakes between Rita and Keiji give the final stretch enough heft to carry it through. A solid adaptation that brings new depth by shifting the POV, All You Need is Kill blends existential dread, sci-fi thrills, and a dash of doomed romance into one compelling time loop. Even if you know where the story is headed, the animation and central pairing make it feel fresh.
- ThreeGs5 dage sidenI don’t usually watch a lot of anime/manga but found this to be a good watch. Especially being a fan of “Edge of Tomrrow”. It was cool to see the original story it came from.
- Rob Roberts20. april 2026Beautifully done. But maybe that’s because I’m a fan of MTVs “Aeon Flux” (1991) that polarized audiences with a similar angular, non-traditional-anime aesthetic. If you haven’t seen Tom Cruise’s “Edge of Tomorrow” (2014), maybe see this animated version first, then the longer live action version that takes a different approach to Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s story “All You Need Is Kill” (2004). Both films succeed.
- turbob2418. april 2026Adapted from the same novel as Edge of Tomorrow (which originally had this title) a film I think is genuinely excellent. This is largely the same story, told in a smaller scale, more accurate to the novel (apparently, according to Gemini...), with a far more contemplative ending. The animation is both stunning and ugly at the same time, takes a while to get used to the style. The action is fantastic, the emotional beats genuine.... I loved it. I love both this and Edge of Tomorrow as they stand as very unique adaptations of the same work, Give it a go it's really good!
- Michael Marcialis17. april 2026I can't understand why they found it necessary to deviate so far from the story in the book and the art style from the manga. In doing so, they've made something that is significantly worse than both of them. Even Edge of Tomorrow was closer to the book. This one was a real disappointment.
- James Saenz12. april 2026what do you MEAN this is based on the same source material as edge of tomorrow??? the animation is vibrant and psychedelic and the character designs are so unique, which i really appreciate. i’m not sure if it’s because this also deviated from the original light novel or because of the short runtime or if it’s because i’m a little burnt out on time loop narratives, but i wasn’t very invested in the characters. i kind of felt like i was just going through the motions; thank god the film was pretty to look at.
