- Desmond Dale24. januar 2025Just the perfect horror and possibly my favorite Sci-Fi film ever. The pacing is masterful. Ridley stretches out each kill to its furthest point of tension. The biomechanical designs by Geiger are impossibly detailed and intricate. And it's just a film that has a slightly slow start but never steps crescendoing until it's very last minute.

This movie started an entire franchise and so many spinoffs they are impossible to count anymore and that’s largely due to the design inspired by HR Geiger and his incredible artwork. This Ridley Scott directed feature starring a very young Sigourney Weaver is still a classic in my books. Set in the distant future when space travel is common, the atmosphere is so realistic and gritty, it feels like this could practically be a documentary about a mining crew on a trip that’s gone very wrong. Even though Alien was released in 1979, if you can believe it, it still holds up in modern day viewing. The technology is not overly dated. The sets are still quite believable and even the alien holds up to a certain degree. At the very least you have to admire Ridley Scott‘s use of practical effects. Not a perfect movie by any stretch of the imagination and compared to modern day horror I think some viewers will find it slow and not very scary. If you like any of the spinoff‘s or or the franchise itself then obviously this is required viewing. If you’re just curious about the alien franchise overall it’s a really good place to start. I’m just a fan of sci-fi so I would give this really excellent but not perfect movie a big thumbs up and recommendation to watch.

Positives: - The movie visually looks great for it’s time with great CGI and Green Screen for it’s time - The cinematography is gorgeous looking - The practical effects for the kills look great - The Xenomorph looks terrifying - The performances are great - There are some terrifying jump scares Negatives: - The movie does drag for me a bit - The film can overstay it’s welcome a bit - There is no character development so I found myself not caring about any of the characters Overall Alien is a little bit overrated in my opinion but still an amazing, classic horror film that everyone should see.
