- Eric Bakke4. november 2024I saw 8 Mile, opening night at Seattle's Neptune Theater in the University District, amongst a bunch of white wanna-be college-aged rappers who were doing some rap battles while we waited in line to get in. It set the perfect vibe for what was to come. The movie pulled me in from the start, and by the time it ended, I couldn’t stop myself from saying to my companion, "that was a pretty f@#&ing good movie".

He doesn’t feel like a typical actor—more like he’s just living it, which makes everything hit harder. Yeah, it can be a bit predictable here and there, but the energy, music, and overall vibe keep it engaging the whole way through. Ends up being more memorable than you’d expect.

No woman, no label, don’t need a pot or a plot — just one shot, a victim — and a mic to drop.

If you're looking to get to know the artist, look elsewhere. Some of the rap battle sequences are pretty good, but overall the story just seems to want to make you angry for no reason.
