- Jordan Jones11. april 202610 Cloverfield Lane - is a very suspenseful & slow burn film that really leans itself into that sense of isolation & paranoia. And John Goodman really steals the show as Howard his whole entire character is a ticking time bomb that could just explode at any moment...you just can't take your eyes off him he's so scary & eerie in this, which really does elevate the whole theme and message of the movie. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is fantastic as well and plays her character Michelle very realistically & convincingly throughout the entire runtime and I loved how clever they made her character...I just loved how Michelle would be fearful, but yet still keep calm at the same time, she was a very strong, relatable & believable character. I also loved the high tension building, that sense of dread & that unknown certainty up until the 3rd act on whether Michelle's been kidnapped by Howard or is there genuinely an alien invasion happening...I just loved that whole question that was in the air throughout the first 2 acts. Overall 10 Cloverfield Lane is a film that keeps you both guessing and on the edge of your seat...that has a very strong protagonist & antagonist in it, which makes for a very rewatchable film as well also.
- Tanalien2. november 2024Looking back on the experience, the rest of the film was just as fantastic as the opening five minutes. 10 Cloverfield Lane is a tight composition, set almost entirely in an underground bunker with just three characters. To its credit, the film does not put all its chips on a single thread of tension. It juggles between notes of humor, contrition, and grief.

It was great til the last 10 minutes, something we all could have done well without. Great characters and actors, the setting is right, it makes no sense to ruin all this with a futile plot twist.

- jackmeat15. januar 2025My quick rating - 6.9/10. I finally got around to watching this one on New Year’s Eve (12/31/23) — happy new year, everyone! It was an interesting pick for the occasion, though I could’ve done without the opening scene of a massive car crash, given the circumstances. That said, the film is an engaging and suspenseful thriller that easily surpasses the original Cloverfield in the story department although they are totally different types of movies. One reason for this improvement lies in the film’s origins. 10 Cloverfield Lane began as a standalone script (The Cellar) and was later adapted into the Cloverfield universe. While the connection feels a bit forced, particularly in the rushed and tacked-on ending, it doesn’t significantly detract from the overall quality. The movie remains a well-crafted psychological thriller with a sharp focus on character-driven tension. Set primarily in a confined, claustrophobic bunker, the film thrives on its small, core cast and their evolving dynamics. Mary Elizabeth Winstead shines as the protagonist, pulling us into her perspective as the story unfolds with subtle twists and turns. John Goodman is a standout as Howard, delivering an unsettling performance that blurs the line between paranoia and reason. His portrayal ensures that we’re constantly questioning his motives and the truth of the situation. The film wisely prioritizes story over special effects, building suspense through character interactions and the ever-present tension of the unknown. Its ability to keep you on edge is a testament to strong writing and direction (Dan Trachtenberg). However, one drawback is an unresolved plot point (or maybe I missed it) that left me scratching my head. In summary, 10 Cloverfield Lane is an intriguing and tightly executed thriller that keeps you guessing until the end. While its connection to the Cloverfield universe might feel a little forced, the film’s compelling mystery and excellent performances make it well worth a watch.
