Visually stunning, not surprising given they spent over $20 million PER EPISODE which is insane even by todays standards. It is as good as Band of Brothers and produced in a similar way. Cast is really strong with the development of the main characters portrayed very well. Also did a fabulous job showing the intensity the Japanese soldiers faught with. I also recommend watching Hacksaw Ridge right before or immediately after Chapter 9 as it fits really well with the story.

What makes this a worthy companion piece to Band of Brothers is, for me, the time it spends on the characters after they make it home. Some may have survived, but staying sane became a full time job. While this is not a show for the faint of heart, it's absolutely worthwhile for all.

The Pacific is arguably one of the Greatest WAR Series ever made after Band of Brothers! The reason why people don't like this series as much is because people expect it to be just like band of brothers. Just imagine being in the boots of both sides and what they would have witnessed and what they did in order to survive! I hope we never have a world war again

As with Band of Brother which is from the same Hanks/Spielberg stable this is a historically accurate and absolutely captivating drama. The story of the US forces, and particularly that of the US Marines, follows their progress through the Pacific campaign to overtake islands held by the Japanese. The action and battle sequences, like those in Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan are so realistic (if we're allowed the luxury of imagining how horrific battle would be) as to be edge-of-the-seat gripping and quite frightening. We're left in no doubt about the fear, the suffering and the horror of battle, it is brought real into our living rooms. The story, as far as the main characters are concerned, follows the trials and strife of a few real-life soldiers from the campaign, one of whom may be the bravest soldier of the twentieth century. In any other era of film making, we could be forgiven for assuming that the exploits had enjoyed some Hollywood over-dramatisation; not so, if anything, the heavily decorated John Basilone was even braver in real battle and real life than he is portrayed in this mini-series - I looked into his sadly short career on Google. Suffice to say that the producers have not exercised any moviemaking license or dramatic hyperbole in the making of this series, and they needn't have done, the truth is startling and frightening enough. The characters are well drawn, youthful, callow as the teenagers and frightened as the young soldiers of WWII would have been. There is no schmaltz, no tackiness in sketching the relationships, even when playing out the brief romance and even briefer marriage of Basilone. Shot in low saturated colour, the photography gives the movie a feel of the period, a period of history which we all think of as having taken place in black and white and which makes us uncomfortable with livid technicolor. Each episode is so captivating and seems so short (though they are not) that I challenge you not to watch at least two episodes on the trot. A fabulous dramatic roller coaster and I recommend it to you.

The Pacific – A Visceral Masterpiece of the Pacific Theater Often viewed as the companion piece to Band of Brothers, The Pacific (HBO) is a staggering achievement in television history. While its predecessor focused on the "Galli-style" camaraderie of Europe, this miniseries offers a gritty, unrelenting, and deeply personal look at the brutal nature of the war against the Empire of Japan. Real History, Real Voices The series' greatest strength is its authenticity. Based primarily on the memoirs With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie, the narrative feels grounded in lived experience. By following the real-life trajectories of Privates Sledge and Leckie, alongside the legendary Sergeant John Basilone, the show balances the macro-scale of the war with the micro-scale of human psyche. A Journey Through Hell The Pacific doesn't shy away from the geography of the war. It takes viewers through a chronological gauntlet of the most infamous battles in the Pacific: • Guadalcanal: The initial shock of jungle warfare. • Cape Gloucester: Dealing with the elements and psychological strain. • Peleliu: A grueling turning point that features some of the most harrowing combat ever filmed. • Iwo Jima & Okinawa: The desperate, bloody conclusion of the island-hopping campaign. Production and Visuals With an enormous budget, the production value is unparalleled. The battle scenes are captivating and frequently gruesome, reflecting the "war without quarter" reality of the Pacific. However, the show is equally effective in its scenes off the battlefield. Whether it is Basilone’s discomfort with his "war hero" celebrity status back home or Sledge’s slow loss of innocence, the series explores the "quiet" moments that define a soldier just as much as the gunfire. The Verdict The Pacific is more than just a history lesson; it is a haunting tribute to the men who fought in some of the most inhospitable conditions on Earth. It is arguably one of the best miniseries on war ever made, prioritizing psychological depth over simple heroism.
