Capt. Spike Ryerson commands the squad of brave and hardworking firemen of Engine Company 23 in Los Angeles County. Like on "Emergency", the men often find themselves involved in rescuing people from dangerous situations--especially dangling from cliffs, skyscrapers, bridges, etc.

The crew responded to a possible man trapped on top of a crane at a construction site but the man couldn't hold on to the railing so the men had no choice but to bring in a life net in order to save him, also engine 23 responded to a three alarm fire at a high rise office buliding and saved a few people including Sonny's ex-girlfriend played by (Van Ark).
