We Live in Time feels like a memory, a jumble of events and feelings that return in pieces. Its nonlinearity reduces the story to a collection of sequences. Many of the sequences are memorable. Some are great. But there is no closure – no satisfying ending – that stitches the experience together as one final expression. That may have been the filmmakers’ intent. In this case, however, the whole is not more than the sum of its parts.

It might be a stopwatch, or the timer on an iPhone. It could be an egg timer in the kitchen, or the countdown at an international cooking competition, though that’s less likely for most of us. We’re surrounded by the constant reminder that our stay here on Earth is limited—our lives are finite. Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.
-William Penn  What do we do with it? With whom do we spend it? Should we excel, learn, or make love? Does it matter?  I was a strange little boy. I can remember rocking and weeping in the middle of the night at eight years old, crushed by the weight of mortality. I was doing the math (I must have just learned it), figuring how old my dad would be when I was twenty. 56? He’s going to die! (That was macabre but I wasn’t far off, he died when I was 24, my mother when I was 22.) In high school I calculated how many books I could likely read before I died and compared it to the number of masterpieces there must be. I despaired.  I’ve wasted countless hours worrying about how little time I have, and even more worrying about how much I worry. I should be reading, or cooking, or learning to ice skate. I should be sharing with other people.  I used to love when Maximus says in Gladiator, “What we do in life, echoes in eternity.” I don’t think that’s true. If it’s going to echo at all, it’s with those we leave behind.    Tick tock

The movie as a whole was really nice to watch and left a very warm feeling. The time jumps in the movie made it a bit confusing at first but as the movie progressed, you understood where you were at after the jumps. Still a great film though and would watch it again.

What a emotional rollercoaster 😍 it had alot of lifes ups and downs and captured beautiful moments of birth, sorrow and love, and many other emotions. Really incredible acting from both lead. We have never cried as much as this before to a film, and that says alot. 👍

I cried like 3 times, with a cast this good you already know the films going to be beautiful

Two breathtaking performances combine with strong nonlinear screenwriting to create a story that feels incredibly authentic and human.

I'm a bit tired of films that try to guilt women for their talent and drive

Pugh and Garfield are undoubtedly adorable and deliver excellent performances. The non-linear storytelling felt completely pointless, though. I really don’t get that decision. And it seemed like the last 30 minutes the film abandoned the non-linear format….so why use it? Maybe because it’s a rather standard bittersweet romance that’s engineered to try to get you to cry. (That’s not a dig. I enjoy those kinds of films when they work. This didn’t.) Worth a watch for Pugh and Garfield, but that’s all I came away with.

Nice film great acting , the non linear story kept the pace interesting. Garfields charcter was a bit too laid back at times.

    confusing

The unfiltered nature of it all made everything feel authentic...and I will never crack eggs the same again.
