The film’s greatest strength lies in its intense visuals and stylish action sequences, which create a dark, gothic atmosphere that immediately draws viewers in. Kate Beckinsale’s Selene is a striking lead, combining elegance with ferocity, and the combat scenes showcase the film’s flair for choreography and design. However, despite the promise of its rich mythology, the narrative feels rushed, leaving little time to fully explore the complex world it introduces. The lore of the vampire–lycan conflict is compelling, but underdeveloped, with character motivations and backstory often sacrificed for spectacle. While the film succeeds as a visually impressive action piece, it misses the opportunity to deepen its world-building. Still, Underworld remains a stylish entry in the genre, memorable for its atmosphere and kinetic energy.
- Dan Leonard2025年11月1日Underworld is a decent film whose subtext is probably better than the film itself. Clearly heavily influenced by the first Matrix film, Underworld's action scenes are not pulled off quite as well. This movie does attempt to subvert the "damsel in destress" trope, although with a lingering "daddy's girl" vibe that is a little cringe worthy. Underworld is more successful with the other main subtext of the institutionalization of purity, racial or spiritual I am not sure which the movie is going for, it works well as a metaphor for either one. The acting in this movie is pulled off quite well by a great cast, and they deliver some fairly garbage lines with flair and style. The set design is really good with some really beautiful pieces in the throne room, but it is shot pretty janky. Particularly in the action scenes. Punches that they try to get a believable angle on but you can still tell miss by a mile. People shooting at each other and missing constantly, and because the movie does such a subpar effort of letting the viewer know where people and things are in relation to each other, it feels like they are missing each other standing 5 feet away. All that being said... This is a perfectly good movie to throw on if you want a little action that you don't have to think about too much.
