- rg94002024年11月1日Trap is a strange movie to review. The plot actually moves into some interesting territory in the second half, suddenly feeling far more compelling. I legitimately enjoyed seeing the way the story develops into this shift, and there were a few sequences in that latter half that really felt captivating. However, so much of this movie requires turning off your brain. Almost all the actions, from both the police and the killer, seem incredibly illogical. It is not even remotely believable that either side is an expert at what they are doing. Logic simply has no place in this movie. The line delivery and dialogue is so stilted and awkward at times. It is intentional because Josh Hartnett can act, as evidenced by various moments throughout the movie, yet he is baffingly terrible at others, especially in the first half. In fact, a lot of the first half of the movie feels like Shyamalam trying to soft launch his daughter's music career. Yet, it's almost endearing how silly it all is, with my theater laughing throughout the movie in a fun way. Even if it was unintentional, there is a B-movie shlock feeling to the film that makes it entertaining in its ridiculousness. Still, I think there are so many things that could have been executed significantly better to make this movie much stronger, because the concept is actually good. It could have been on the level of Split, but instead it seems destined to be compared to the director's weaker work, even if it is more fun than those movies. At this stage, we should know what to expect from M Night Shyamalam, with his strong movies being the outliers and not the norm. This one had the potential to be that outlier, and though it can feel fun and engaging, it doesn't reach that potential.
- ragmondo2025年2月15日If I had to watch this on an flight, I’d still walk out. This film is destined to be one of those “so bad it’s good” films that you must watch with friends and take a shot every time someone does something completely out of character or something just completely infeasible happens . Watch out though as you will have alcohol poisoning within 20 mins. Has Shama ever actually been to a concert ?! ** update : for every like, I’ll watch this again **
- Scott2024年12月15日Some notably bad dialog (even for Shyamalan) can’t push me away from how much fun Hartnett is having. Not a good movie but so ludicrous that I couldn’t help but have fun imagining the continuing adventures of Lady Raven in a Knives Out-style cinematic universe where she tours around solving crimes.
- MrTrivet2026年1月26日Although I believe that M. Night Shyamalan is often subjected to excessive criticism, Trap unfortunately provides ammunition for his skeptics. The premise is intriguing, and the first half draws the viewer in with a clever trap-based setup; the stadium-set game of cat and mouse - featuring elements of social hacking and escape-route improvisation reminiscent of Hitman - rests on solid foundations. The problems emerge later. The director stumbles over his own ambitions, and the second half veers into magical thinking, where narrative logic ceases to apply to both the pursuers and the pursued. There are too many twists, most of which feel unjustified and unearned. Fortunately, Josh Hartnett, despite an uneven performance, ultimately remains convincing and carries the film on his shoulders. The whole thing also feels like an attempt to boost the director’s daughter’s music career (luckily, she is quite talented). Trap delivers entertainment if not examined too closely, but it ultimately leaves a strong sense of wasted potential.
- Monkey See! Monkey Review!!2025年9月13日M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap spins a taut psychological thriller that blurs the line between empathy and horror. The film invites viewers into a morally murky world, where you may find yourself unexpectedly torn—feeling for the villain while still craving justice. TLDR -> A Twisted Symphony of Suspense and Emotion. Highly Recommended Without spoiling any major plot points, I’ll say this: going in blind, without watching the trailer, heightened the experience. The story unfolds with a gripping pace, and the tension builds steadily, keeping you on edge throughout. Josh Hartnett delivers a standout performance, embodying his character with chilling precision and emotional depth. His presence anchors the film, adding a layer of complexity that elevates the narrative. In short, Trap is a compelling and unsettling ride—one that lingers long after the credits roll. If you’re drawn to thrillers that challenge your instincts and keep you guessing, this one’s worth your time.
