- SpikyCactus2天前Top badass moment? I guess healing people with the power of touch is pretty hard to beat when it comes to badass things. So a nice young lad who’s just spent four years as a monk working as some sort of missionary in the Brazilian Amazon, comes back to the US and takes up a quiet job in a recovery and respite centre for alcoholics. Oh yes, he also has the ability to cure people of various ailments simply by touching them. And some people try to monetise it and some people fall in love - and now, thinking about it, nothing else is really that interesting. The thing that really bugs me about this film is that everyone is so 'storm in a teacup' about everything; medical miracles, domestic violence, militant ministers. I mean they react to it, but less than I do to a run of green lights when I’m driving. Maybe this was done deliberately, but it was still irritating. Everything felt so undramatic, even the dramatic things. Mundane, that’s the word I’m looking for. Gina Gershon churns out a pretty fun effort as the TV chat show host, Tom Arnold and Christopher Walken are basically Tom Arnold and Christopher Walken, and Bridget Fonda is the slightly irritating and shallow love interest. The soundtrack is notable for being written and mostly performed by Dave Grohl, although it sounds nothing like Foo Fighters. Technically it’s adequate, although it’s reeked of ‘Made for TV’ and felt older than its age – it’s set in a kind of USA that doesn’t seem to exist anymore; the plot was pretty interesting and different; the script’s a bit confusing at times; and the acting’s decent enough. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.
- Charles London2025年3月2日Skeet Ulrich and Bridget Fonda work well together in this black comedy with both soft and sharp edges. Tom Arnold is strangely watchable and Christopher Walken is, well...Christopher Walken. No belly laughs but oddly amusing.
