- Callum2025年11月23日⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Time Travel Is Dangerous – Charming Chaos Through the Ages Time Travel Is Dangerous is one of those delightfully odd British films that sneaks up on you — not because it’s groundbreaking, but because it has a sort of scruffy charm that makes you think, “How did they get this cast for that script?” Even if you don’t immediately spot every face, you’ll definitely recognise the voices — and when Stephen Fry pops in as narrator, you can’t help but smile. If an American doesn’t know that voice, I fear for their cultural education. The tone wobbles between comedy and light horror, but never quite lands fully in either camp. Johnny Vegas has been funnier elsewhere, and the horror moments barely skim the surface. But Brian Bovell is excellent, grounding the story with a warmth and weariness that give the film more heart than you’d expect from such a low-budget outing. In fact, the biggest surprise is the disconnect between the modest budget and the surprisingly polished production — clearly a team determined to make the most of what they had. The premise — two girls pinballing through time and nicking whatever isn’t nailed down — is the real highlight, and the film is at its best when it leans into that “we’re absolutely getting away with this” energy. It isn’t a genre-redefining masterpiece, but it is good fun, the sort of movie you happily sit through again if a mate wants to watch it, even if you wouldn’t hit play solo. 🍻 Pairing: A pint of old-fashioned bitter — a little uneven, a little rough at the edges, but somehow exactly right for a British time-travelling caper that’s all charm and mischief.

Perfectly small-stakes. Highlights include the fake ’80s sci-fi show The Future Today, featuring Ralph and Botty—Botty being a “robot” whose TV head displays a live feed of Robert performing from a studio down the hall. Also loved the idea of The Unreason, a hell-dimension where the trapped pass time inventing convoluted board games and endlessly arguing over the rules. A hilariously specific dig at board game obsessives, and totally exemplary of the kind of humor this has throughout. It’s dry, weird, and deeply committed to its niche. Not for everyone. Definitely for me, though.
