- naren shenoy2026年3月3日I can get behind slow burns. But man, this one is molasses. I guess there is a book, so maybe those who have read the book might enjoy it more? I watched this for two reasons. Peter Dinklage and James Hetfield (not that I expected much from Hetfield, but wanted to see what drew him to this project as I am a huge fan of his music). This feels like one of those movies where I missed something, but not sure I will come back to it, unless someone I know compels me to do so.
- Kevin Ward2025年7月1日My wife had really enjoyed the novel and had been looking forward to watching this for a while. This turned out to be a pretty solid western elevated mostly by Dinklage performance. A solidly entertaining snowy western thriller.
- Junior Reyes2026年2月10日I just saw this movie. I didn't hate it. In fact, I liked it. Is it great? No. Is it bad? No. Its problem is the lack of development of the characters we're supposed to care about, the impatience, and the missed opportunities. But it does some things very well. First, Juliette Lewis is outstanding in her role. She's terrifying and believable as a boss. That's rare. I think she's so good that she deserves (i) a prequel and (ii) an Oscar nomination (but not to win). Along the same lines, Peter Dinklage is also strong in his role. You get to know his character. He's believable. And he's a good actor. I 100% believed that, even though he's small, he's very formidable and a force to be reckoned with. But there isn't a single other decent actor or character in the group. Just cardboard cutouts that were left undeveloped and do nothing. The sister? Nothing. The rescuing brother? He has plenty of screen time and lines. Nothing is done with them. The Indian sidekick. ZERO. The other outlaws. ZERO. The gang members. Horrid actors and characters. The almost-whore rescued. One of the worst characters and actresses I've ever seen. Nobody acts like that, talks like that, or makes those decisions. So what you're left with is great cinematography, an interesting little steampunk reference with motorcycles and cars, stellar performances from Lewis and Dinklage, and some flimsy, flamboyant humor. This is the movie that needed another 45 minutes of development, story, and momentum. And it had the actors to deliver it. I liked the movie. It could have been so much better, and they wasted the brilliance of two people.

- Hakihiko2024年12月16日A Gritty Western That Struggles to Stand Out The Thicket (2024) is a gritty Western thriller that has its moments but ultimately falls short of its potential. Based on Joe R. Lansdale's novel, the film sets up an intriguing premise: a young man seeking to rescue his kidnapped sister, teaming up with a bounty hunter and a quirky group of outcasts. The cast, led by Peter Dinklage, gives solid performances, especially Dinklage, who brings a grizzled charm and intensity to his role. Juliette Lewis also shines in her eccentric supporting part (on par with the performance of Dinklage, or even better). Visually, the film captures the rough, unforgiving world of the frontier, with a stark and at times beautiful atmosphere. There's a tangible sense of danger and lawlessness, enhanced by a strong score that keeps the tension simmering. However, despite these positives, The Thicket feels uneven. The pacing drags in places, with long stretches where not much happens. Some of the supporting characters, while entertaining, don't get enough depth to feel fully realized. I found the meeting with some characters rushed too. The plot, which starts strong, becomes somewhat predictable, relying on familiar Western tropes without offering much new to the genre. Overall, The Thicket has moments of grit and character, but its inconsistent pacing and lack of fresh storytelling prevent it from being more than an average watch. It's worth seeing if you're a fan of the genre or the actors involved, but it doesn't quite leave a lasting impact.
